"Chuck" fans can breathe a sigh of relief. The action/comedy/spy series will return next season.
"Chuck" has been officially picked up for a fourth season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Additionally, ABC's "V" has also been renewed, with both series expected to receive orders for 13 episodes each.
While "Chuck" has been modestly rated on NBC, it has performed very steadily this season, especially compared to its companion series, "Heroes;" which is unlikely to be renewed.
On ABC, "V" has also performed well when placed after "Lost" on Tuesdays, outshining fellow-sci-fi series "FlashForward," which is also not expected to return.
"Chuck" stars Zachary Levi in the title role as a young man who inadvertently has the greatest secrets of the CIA downloaded directly into his brain. He later becomes a full-fledged secret agent while maintaining his cover identity at an electronics superstore. The series also stars Adam Baldwin, Joshua Gomez, Sarah Lancaster, Ryan McPartlin and Yvonne Strahovski, as Agent Sarah Walker, Chuck's protector and later, lover.
"Chuck" has faced cancellation before in the face of massive fan campaigns which have successfully saved the series on at least two occasions.
'V' is a remake of the sci-fi miniseries of the same name that aired in the '80s. It follows a small group of resistance fighters led by FBI Agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) against a malevolent group of aliens known as "The Visitors," who are led by Anna (Morena Baccarin). Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Laura Vandervoort, Logan Huffman and Scott Wolf also star.
It's worth noting that the original "V" TV series lasted only a single season on NBC, following the two successful miniseries that preceded it.
