The final episode of "Lost" — appropriately titled "The End" — has been expanded to two and a half hours, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The episode is scheduled to air on Sunday, May 23 from 9pm to 11pm, as part of ABC's "The 'Lost' Weekend." On Saturday, May 22, ABC will air an "enhanced" version of the first episode of "Lost." Prior to the finale on May 23, ABC will also air a two-hour retrospective titled "Lost: The Final Journey." After the finale, a special episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" will feature an "Aloha To Lost" with the cast and creators of the show. "Lost" executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof announced earlier this week that they have finished post-production on the final episode. During a recent interview, Lindelof revealed that not all of the mysteries of the show will be answered during the finale. "We knew the new storytelling device would be controversial," said Lindelof. "We started showing people this thing, and people don't know what it is. They don't know how it connects back in the show. We're throwing this huge mystery into a show that already has a bunch of mysteries at a time when the audience expects us to be closing doors and not opening them."
"The series finale has to fit the show," explained Lindelof. "We're trying to end 'Lost' in a way that feels 'Lost'-ian and fair and will generate a tremendous amount of theorizing. We're going to be as definitive as we can be and say this is our ending, but there's no way to end the show where the fans aren't going to say, 'What did they mean by this?' Which is why we're not going to explain it."
Lindelof also addressed the controversial "Flash-sideways" storytelling used this season and promised that they would offer an explanation for it.
