Jason Filiatrault wrote the quirky web-series “Bunny Hug” on a dare, and now that the web is abuzz over the first three five-minute episodes, everyone’s taking this comedy a little more seriously.
The show stars Calgary natives Michelle Morgan (from the hit drama “Heartland”) and Christopher Austman as ex-boyfriend and girlfriend Celeste and Travis, who are living together for two reasons: because of the economic downturn and downright self-righteous indignation. As the official site suggests, “Bunny Hug” sets out to get as many laughs as possible in its very short episodes, and according to bloggers, it delivers in a big way. Canadian actor Jason Priestly of “Beverly Hills, 90210” fame is quoted as saying it’s “really funny! I love it!”
For actress Morgan, it’s a much more risqué and grown-up role compared to the wholesomeness that is “Heartland.” “Bunny Hug” is a witty show that pushes boundaries with its clever dialogue, not to mention the terrific rapport between Celeste and Travis, which is evident after the first episode. The second episode introduces viewers to their two best friends, who are equally as zany and entertaining – actor/comedian Jordan Schartner as “Danny” and actor/singer/dancer Arielle Rombough as “Nyah.’
“Bunny Hug” received three nominations this week from the Alberta Motion Picture Industry Association Awards (AMPIA), or “The Rosies.” They received nods in the categories of Best Alberta Actor, Best Short and Best Screenwriter, Drama Under 30.
