Five reasons to watch FlashForward

Jump in to ABC's Lost replacement.

You know, network TV is a copy cat league to be certain. There are three Law & Order shows on TV, countless Hospital shows, and more NCIS’ than you can shake LL Cool J at. Not to mention that for every Desperate Housewives there is a Cougar Town and so on and so forth. In all this parity where can we go to find some individuality on network TV? We’ve told you about Heroes, and you already know about Lost, but is there anything out there for the newcomer to the potential nirvana that is TV?

Well one of the major problems is that Lost is already several seasons in and therefore an investment as much as it is a show. How can someone be expected to make another large investment in yet another TV show? Simple, get a DVR and set aside some time for another show that should dominate your water cooler conversation come Friday morning.

This is guaranteed money baby…

FlashForward has already been renewed for a second season, which represents an investment on the part of the network. The least you can do is make good on that investment by watching the show on Thursday nights, or recording the show to watch at your leisure like I do. Shows like FlashForward don’t come along every year and it’s important to get in on the ground floor now before so much happens that you feel lost.

And would ya just look at that cast!

Courtney B. Vance, Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, and Sonya Walger are but a few of the excellent cast that fills this primetime powerhouse in the making. They work well together and are ironing out the kinks rather quickly. The most important aspect of the show is how the relationships between the characters are affected by the events in the show. It’s where the meat is and where the show truly shines. The actors give you a sense of doubt about some of the relationships lasting and that means that they are also giving you a reason to tune in and see what will happen next.

There is something to be said about originality.

I dare you to show me this shows predecessor! I can’t think of a premise like this, or one that was executed for TV so well. There is so much happening in the first episode that lesser creators would have dropped the ball, but David Goyer and company do an admirable job of making sense of the confusion that is generated with the first episode. The show flows beautifully which is a big deal when you consider the sheer number of characters to follow in one short hour.

When the last time something scared you really good?

I hate horror movies because you have to go in expecting to be scared, I’d rather the scare sneak up and get me all ninja like. That’s what happened when I watched the first episode of FlashForward. The ending scared the beejeezus out of me. I don’t want to give anything away because it’s not too late to see all three episodes.

How’s that rock you live under working out for you?

What? You’ve never heard of Hulu? Go to Hulu.com and type FlashFoward into the search box. This website is awesome and you can get caught up with a ton of TV on it. Do yourself a favor and get familiar with Hulu.

Look, I just want to save you from being that guy (you know that guy). I’m the guy who can’t watch Lost because I can’t figure out what’s happening. I’m also the guy who tries to explain Heroes to someone that’s missed two whole seasons to no avail. Save yourself a good deal of trouble and watch this show now to avoid either of these scenarios.
