![]() By Jon Lachonis | We take a look at what the future holds for Season four of Lost. |
It’s back. The writer’s strike is ‘officially’ over for Lost fans who have endured a second, albeit brief, hiatus as a result of the scribe revolt. “Shape of Things to Come” is episode 9 of Lost’s fourth season, and with the weight of its title alone a pivotal episode. Just what are the shapes of things to come? Before the season came to an abrupt end, fans were on a dizzying roller-coaster that seemed to leave the rails just before that very question was answered.
Lost show-runners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have gone on the record, via their official podcast, that we will definitely find out if Danielle is toast. Regardless of the answer to that question, the duo assure fans that we will see more of the character in the future. My guess? LOST is in its fourth season, the ‘regulars’ are probably pulling down some big bucks, adding new regulars was sort of demanded by the events of the finale and this premiere and that can become an expensive process as well, I’d guess the writers and producers are looking for creative, shocking, and entertaining ways to keep that bloating cast budget under control. Nuff said.
Control is the big reveal here. Lindelof and Cuse have said we will learn something new about “Smokey” involving who controls him, and have separately said that Ben was lying when he said he didn’t know anything about the smoke monster. This is remedial addition folks. Prediction: Ben controls Smokey, and Smokey will no doubt be the equalizer when the freighter’s heavily armed thugs arrive in Otherville to capture Ben.

Jack finds a body on the beach and tries to identify it according to the official description. The very concept that Jack would think he can identify the body betrays that it is someone that somebody knows. A very alluring rumor out there in the world says we are going to see this guy still alive before the episode is over. Duplicates? Say it isn’t so.

The preview clips are intense, action orientated, and hinting at out and out weirdness. The true answer may lay in the flash forward sequences of the episode though, which belong to Ben Linus. Alan Dale appears in the cast list as Charles Widmore, so we may get a glance at Ben and Chuck communicating in future time. Could that interaction bring some clarity to what is really behind the Widmore/Linus rivalry?
Other rumors, culled from snoops on the set, suggest that Ben will appear in the Iraqi desert wearing a Dharma parka, shortly before coming in contact with Sayid (Naveen Andrews). That is an interesting choice of attire that begs the question “From where, and when, did Ben travel to that desert?”, if the answer comes by the end of tomorrows episode it’s sure to be a doozie.
If there is one thing we know for sure, it is from the information that has trickled out regarding episode 4.10 “Something nice back home.” After the attack on camp Locke, Sawyer, Claire, Aaron, and Miles are on their way back to camp Jack meaning Claire survives the day, but the chess pieces seem to be moving into position for the reveal of why baby Aaron becomes an Oceanic 6 with faux mom Kate instead of the platinum Aussie lass.
