Weeds: Season 3 finale

Final episode of Weeds hits very close to home.

On Monday November 19th the third season of Showtime’s hit show ‘Weeds’ will reach its conclusion. In eerie coincidence the events at season’s end bare a chilling resemblance to real life events, as the threat of a wild fire sends Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) and her family heading for safety. Television series using true events to tell fictional stories is nothing new, but during trying times sometimes networks can be accused of being insensitive, or worse exploiting the victims of tragedy. This became a concern for the Showtime network as the episodes were shot months before the San Diego wild fires ever got started. In a press release, a representative from the network made it clear that this was all simply coincidence.

“These episodes were written and filmed this past summer, long before Southern California experienced a real-life tragedy.  On behalf of the cast and crew of Weeds and everyone at Showtime, we¹d like to acknowledge the thousands of families who’ve been affected by the devastating fires.  Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

Weeds has been one of the best cable series running since its debut two season ago, they have an incredible cast of highly relatable characters. Hopefully victims of the San Diego tragedy will still be able to find the value of entertainment, even as the events that take place in this episode hit more close to home than some of us would like. The Showtime network should be commended for reaching out to its viewing public when they didn’t necessarily have to.

Be sure to check out the season finally of Weeds this Monday at 10:00 (ET/PT) and be sure to come back to Craveonline.com for all your Weeds information.
