What is it about racy behavior that has everyone running home to tune into their TV’s? The cable shows have an almost unfair advantage over their network counterparts with what they can do and say on their channels. That’s not to say that Californication is only popular because of the shows revealing nature, but I’m sure it helps. The brand new show is one of the highest rated shows in Showtime’s broadcast history, so many people sat down in front of the tube for this show that a choice was made to renew the show for another season.Coming in strong after the very popular ‘Weeds’ program, the show retains 90% of that shows viewers for itself, making both shows together an extremely effective one-two punch.
The president of Showtime Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt expressed a lot of enthusiasm for his newest hit show, “CALIFORNICATION is a home run for us. We haven't launched a first-year show this strongly out of the gate before, and it caps an extraordinary 12 months that's included the launch of 'Dexter,' 'The Tudors,' 'Brotherhood,' and 'This American Life. It's just another great notch in our proverbial bedpost (he says jokingly)."
Californication centers around the life of one Hank Moody (David Duchovny) who is struggling through his career as a writer while trying to win a family he’s already lost back. You pity the guy for his situation but that feeling fades once he begins to bed woman three times a day Wilt Chamberlain style. The rest of the cast is impressive and the show is a riot. Thanks to all of the viewers in the first few weeks of the show, there will be a second season hitting the airwaves sometime in the summer of 2008
