He was sweet, funny, loveable, and the most dedicated of chefs and foodies – Ken Kostick succumbed to acute pancreatitis on Friday and died at the age of 58.
The Winnipeg native enjoyed his first taste of stardom when he co-hosted the popular Like Network cooking show "What's For Dinner with Ken and Mary Jo" alongside Mary Jo Eustace, whom he reunited with on the W Network's "He Said, She Said with Ken and Mary Jo" and then again in 2007 for a radio show on a Toronto station. He was also a published cookbook author and the name behind over a dozen titles including "Kens Soup Krazy" and "Little Kenny in the Kitchen," as well as the spokesman for the Starfrit brand. He even had a catering company called Gourmet by Ken.
Kostick Kostick's business manager and life partner Desi Cabrera made the announcement of his passing on his Facebook page last Saturday. People immediately took to social networking sites and blogs to express their sadness and shock over his death, while slews of food columnists and critics shared their fond memories of the kind and gentle man.
"I just want everybody to know he was a fantastic person on TV and off," Eustace told CBC News Network on the phone from California. She added about an upcoming memorial service being planned by friends, "Ken is not about seriousness. What we want to do is include all the food he loved, like perogies, and the people that he loved, to laugh and share a story about him."
