Top New Series To Look For

What to look for in Canada this season.

Networks are abuzz about the upcoming original programming that will hit airwaves this fall and into 2012. From home-grown series to special highly-anticipated multi-part specials, these are the top new series to look for in the coming months.

"Transporter: The Series"

A TV adaptation of the successful film franchise, "Transporter" will star Chris Vance ("Prison Break") and is being shot in Toronto this summer. The 12-part series will feature action-packed one-hour episodes on HBO Canada starting in 2012.

"The Drunk and On Drugs Happy Funtime Hour"

Created by the stars of the "Trailer Park Boys," this quirky comedy has a great cast including Mike Smith, Robb Wells and JP Tremblay. Originally slated for Showcase, it will now debut on Action July 22nd.

"Triumph of the Will"

First Spenny (of "Kenny vs Spenny") got "Single White Spenny" and now Kenny will star in his own show "Triumph of the Will," premiering on Action July 22nd.

"Deck Wars"

Pitting the DIY skills of supposed handymen against one another in a battle for ultimate deck supremacy, "Deck Wars" hits HGTV July 7th at 10pm.

"Cover Me Canada"

The show – which airs this fall and will see Canadian bands that don’t have recording contracts competing by performing cover versions of popular Canadian songs – was the highest-profile project at the CBC launch. It starts September 18th.

"The Firm"

One of the most talked-about upcoming 2012 shows is "The Firm," based on John Grisham's bestselling novel (and later a box-office hit). The 22-episode series will premiere midseason next year on both Global and NBC.

"World Without End"

Created around Ken Follett’s multi-million bestseller of the same name, this new series will air on Showcase in 2012. Budgeted at US$43 million, the eight-hour special event is a Canadian/German production.
