Just days ahead of Comic-Con, FX's hotly anticipated comic book inspired series, "Powers" has landed another familiar performer.
AOL TV is reporting that Titus Welliver has joined the "Powers" pilot as Triphammer, a Tony Stark-like inventor who is described as a combination of Steve Jobs and Donald Trump who happens to be “a genius and a narcissist.”
Based upon the long running comic by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, "Powers" takes place in a world in which superheroes and villains are commonplace, but the crimes are even more horrifying. Jason Patric ("Rush") stars as Christian Walker, a former superhero who has reinvented himself as a homicide detective, with Lucy Punch as his partner, Deena Pilgrim. Charles S. Dutton, Bailee Madison and Carly Foulkes costar in the pilot.
Among genre fans, Welliver is best known as the unnamed nemesis on "Lost" who fans called The Man in Black. However, Welliver has an extensive list of roles to his credit, including appearances in the films "Mulholland Falls," "Rough Riders," "The Doors," "Twisted" and the remake of "Assault on Precinct 13."
On television, Welliver had recurring parts on "NYPD Blue" and "Deadwood." More recently, Welliver played an Irish gunrunner on "Sons of Anarchy" and a prominent prosecutor on the CBS drama, "The Good Wife."
Filming on the "Powers" pilot is expected to begin this month. Although FX has yet to formally pick it up as a series, it seems likely that the project will go forward under the guidance of Charles H. Eglee ("The Walking Dead"), who wrote the pilot script and will serve as the showrunner for the potential weekly series.
