’24′ Heads To India With ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Star

Anil Kapoor is the Indian Jack Bauer, for a new incarnation of the hit series.

Jack Bauer is making a comeback. It's just not in the way that anyone could have predicted.

According to Deadline, Anil Kapoor has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox TV to produce and star in an Indian version of "24." Kapoor will also step into the iconic role of Jack Bauer; whom Kiefer Sutherland portrayed for eight seasons on Fox.

“It will be a great honor for me to play Jack Bauer,” said Kapoor in a statement. “Kiefer has created an iconic character which has inspired me to bring the franchise to India. This will be my first foray to Indian television and I look forward to duplicating the standard of excellence Fox has so successfully created.”

Kapoor actually co-starred in the final season of the original "24" as President Omar Hassan, from the fictional Middle Eastern nation of Kamistan. Hassan was a flawed man who was attempting to forge a peace agreement before his brutal murder. But this time, if there are any asses to kick, Kaporr will be doing the kicking.

In the United States, Kapoor is best known for his role as the game show host in "Slumdog Millionaire" and his upcoming part in "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol." However, Kapoor is widely considered one of the most recognized actors in his native India, with several feature films to his credit since his debut in 1979.

Pre-production for the Indian "24" will begin in mid-2012. It's unknown if the series will make its way to the U.S. in any format, but it is bound to be something of interest to curious fans of the original series.
