The Wachowski siblings are coming to TV.
Variety is reporting that Lana and Andy Wachowski have created a new television project called “Sense8;” which will reunite them with J. Michael Straczynski; who previously collaborated with the Wachowskis by writing the script for Ninja Assassin.
The premise for “Sense8” is being held under wraps, but the Wachowskis have reportedly already written three spec scripts and will serve as co-showrunners with Straczynski on the project. The Wachowskis are also said to be up for directing a few episodes of the potential TV series, provided that their feature schedule doesn’t cause a conflict.
The Wachowskis are best known for directing The Matrix and its two sequels as well as the upcoming Cloud Atlas. Straczynski created the cult sci-fi series “Babylon 5,” contributed to the Thor feature film and wrote Clint Eastwood’s Changeling among numerous other credits.
“Sense8” is also being produced by Georgeville TV, which recently sold the pirate drama “Crossbones” to NBC.
"This project is near and dear to (the Wachowskis and Straczynski's) heart. I'm so excited and honored that they felt comfortable bringing this to me," said Georgeville’s Marc Rosen. "This is the kind of project that our company was set up to produce — an idea so big in size and scale that it doesn't make sense to try it as a pilot. The only way to let the filmmakers realize their vision on something like this is to do multiple episodes."
There is currently no network attached to “Sense8,” but it will likely be shopped around in the near future.
