The last time that the Cybermen appeared on “Doctor Who,” The Doctor (Matt Smith) dispatched them fairly easily alongside his former roommate and friend, Craig Owens (James Corden).
It probably won’t be as simple next time.
BBC has announced that Neil Gaiman’s upcoming “Doctor Who” episode will feature the return of the Cybermen as the Doctor and his new companion, (played by Jenna-Louise Coleman) encounter a band of misfits on a mysterious planet. Warwick Davis (“Life’s Too Short”), Jason Watkins (“Being Human”) and Tamzin Outhwaite (“Hotel Babylon”) were also confirmed to be appearing within the episode.
“Cybermen were always the monsters that scared me the most,” exclaimed “Doctor Who” showrunner, Steven Moffat. “Not just because they were an awesome military force, but because sometimes they could be sleek and silver and right behind you without you even knowing. And with one of the all-time classic monsters returning, and a script from one of our finest novelists, it's no surprise we have attracted such stellar names as Tamzin, Jason and Warwick.”
Gaiman revealed that he was returning to “Doctor Who” back in September as he accepted the Hugo award for his first episode on the series, “The Doctor’s Wife.” For Gaiman’s newest excursion into “Doctor Who,” he will be joined by director Stephen Woolfenden.
“Doctor Who” will return to BBC One and BBC America on Christmas for an adventure that officially introduces the new companion. The remaining eight episodes of “Doctor Who” season 7 will debut in Spring 2013.
