One day before “Burn Notice” returns to USA for the remainder of its sixth season, word has come down that the series will be back for at least another round.
Deadline has confirmed that “Burn Notice” season 7 has been given a greenlight by USA for 13 new episodes.
“‘Burn Notice’ is like a fine wine that gets better with age,” noted USA Network Co-Presidents Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel in a joint statement. “Delivering high-octane action, gripping drama and nearly 7 million viewers for the mid-season finale, this veteran series is a proven staple of our portfolio.”
The order will bring “Burn Notice” up to 111 episodes, making it only the third USA original series to reach the 100 episodes threshold. 100 episodes is also considered the minimum number of episodes for a syndicated drama series; which greatly enhances the chances that “Burn Notice” will have a long TV afterlife.
However, the seventh season will be losing five episodes. “Burn Notice” seasons 4 through 6 had 18 episodes each, with 16 episodes each for seasons 2 and 3 as well as 12 in the first season.
When TV networks cut the number of new episodes ordered, it usually means that the series is winding down. “Burn Notice” is still a successful show for USA and an eighth season could still happen. But fewer episodes is almost never good news.
"Burn Notice" season six resumes tomorrow, November 08 on USA.
