The third season of “The Walking Dead” has delivered the long awaited prison storyline and the introductions of Michonne and the Governor. But there may be one more major addition coming to the series in just a few weeks.
Entertainment Weekly broke the story during an interview with “The Walking Dead” co-creator, Robert Kirkman in which the author dropped some very broad hints.
“There’s a new character added [in the eighth episode],” noted Kirkman. “A big deal fan favorite from the comic book is introduced into the show in this episode, so be on the lookout for that.”
Kirkman declined to name the character in question, but speculation has immediately focused on Tyreese; one of the most prominent characters to have not been introduced in the TV series.
In the original “Walking Dead” comic, Tyreese and his daughter, Julie (and Julie’s boyfriend, Chris) were very early additions to the cast. Tyreese became a close friend to Rick and a lover to Carol and later Michonne. He also played a major role in the showdown with the Governor.
It’s never been completely clear why Tyreese was left out of the show. Although there is the theory that the second alpha male role was largely filled by the late Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal), with Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) currently stepping up for the slot.
Entertainment Weekly notes that actor, Chad Coleman (“The Wire”) is rumored to have been spotted near the set of “The Walking Dead;” fuelling speculation that Coleman will portray Tyreese on the series.
The eighth episode of “The Walking Dead” season 3 will be shown on Sunday, December 2.
