In the very first episode of “Arrow,” viewers learned that Thea Queen (Willa Holland) had the nickname “Speedy;” which was the name of Green Arrow’s sidekick in the original DC comics incarnation of the character.
And while Thea appears to be far away from picking up a bow and joining her brother, Oliver (Stephen Amell), the real Speedy is coming to “Arrow.”
TV Guide broke the story about former “Teen Wolf” actor, Colton Haynes signing onto “Arrow” as Roy Harper for a multiple episode run.
Back at New York Comic Con, “Arrow” executive producer Marc Guggenheim said “we’ve definitely talked about Roy [Harper] and we have a pretty cool idea for him. All things in good time, but the take for Roy that we have… is pretty badass.”
In the TV Guide story, Roy Harper is described as "a handsome, street-savvy, teenager from 'the Glades,' the harsh, poverty-stricken portion of Starling City" who will fall for Thea and eventually become “an important player in the larger world of ‘Arrow.’"
Prior to his two season stint on MTV’s “Teen Wolf,” Haynes appeared in “CSI: Miami,” “Pushing Daisies,” “Melrose Place,” “The Gates” and “The Nine Lives of Chloe King.”
In the comics, Roy Harper eventually graduates from being Green Arrow’s sidekick and becomes a full fledged hero on his own under the names Arsenal and Red Arrow. Although if you’re a Roy Harper fan, it’s probably best to ignore the last few years of his comic book appearances. Just trust me on that one.
