‘The Sixth Gun’ Gets a Pilot Order From NBC

Oni Press’ comic book series gets closer to making the leap to live action television.

In the summer of 2011, Syfy announced plans to turn Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt’s comic book series, “The Sixth Gun” in a TV miniseries. However, the project is now on the cusp of landing a full series order from NBC.

According to Deadline, NBC has officially ordered a pilot episode for “The Sixth Gun,” with Ryan Condal slated to write the pilot and executive produce the series alongside “Lost” veteran Carlton Cuse, Eric Gitter and Andy Bourne.

Originally published by Oni Press, “The Sixth Gun” takes place in the Old West and it centers on a young woman named Becky Montcrief, who gains possession of the“Sixth Gun” that is said to be most dangerous weapon of six mythical guns. Becky is soon joined by Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter who may be the only one who can help her survive the evil men and dark forces who seek to claim her gun.

Back in 2011, Bunn and Hurtt also landed a development deal at Showtime for their comic book series “The Damned.” However, there has been no news on that project for several months.

Cuse is extremely busy this season on television. In addition to “The Sixth Gun,” Cuse is overseeing “Bates Motel” on A&E and working on FX’s adaptation of “The Strain” with Guillermo del Toro.

A start date for “The Sixth Gun” pilot was not announced, but casting should begin soon.
