When ABC and Marvel announced that The Avengers director Joss Whedon was bringing “S.H.I.E.L.D.” to television, it was generally understood that most of the film’s cast wouldn’t be returning for the potential series.
It was considered something of a coup that Clark Gregg quickly signed on to “S.H.I.E.L.D.” as Agent Phil Coulson. Now word has emerged that Gregg may not be the only Avengers actor to appear on “S.H.I.E.L.D.” alongside the new recruits.
During an interview with IAmRogue.com, “How I Met Your Mother” star Cobie Smulders confirmed that there is a chance for her Avengers character, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill to make the jump to TV as well. And even the upcoming ninth season of “How I Met Your Mother” may not stand in the way.
"The commitments to [‘How I Met Your Mother’] don’t affect it," said Smulders. "And I can’t really say [more], but there are definite talks about it."
Smulders is already set to reprise her role as Maria Hill in Captain America: The Winter Soldier alongside Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson. Smulders noted that she will report for filming in either March or June. She also spoke out about her commitment to playing Hill as long as she can.
“I’m very excited,” exclaimed Smulders. “I will do Maria Hill until they fire me and hire someone else to do it."
ABC is widely expected to greenlight “S.H.I.E.L.D.” for a Fall 2013 debut while Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters in April 2014.
