Cinemax Orders ‘Banshee’ Season 2

The newest action series becomes the premium network’s first pickup for 2014.

Sheriff Lucas Hood (Antony Starr) has only been on the job for just over three weeks, but apparently Cinemax likes what it sees.

Earlier today, Cinemax renewed “Banshee” for a second season, slated to debut in 2014. “Banshee” was created by  Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler, with Alan Ball (“True Blood”) executive producing the series.

“Banshee” follows a skilled thief who is newly released from a fifteen year prison stint before he assumes the identity of a small town sheriff named Lucas Hood. And while the new Lucas Hood dispenses his own brand of justice and clashes with the corrupt Kai Proctor (Ulrich Thomsen) he also struggles to maintain the charade and elude the gangsters working for his former employer, Mr. Rabbit (Ben Cross). On top of everything else, Hood discovers that his former lover, Carrie Hopewell (Ivana Miličević) has reinvented herself as the wife of the local DA and the mother of his two children… leaving Hood’s hopes of reconciliation in the dust.

With the early renewal, “Banshee” should be ready for another January launch in 2014. However, given the nature of the show, it seems likely that not every character will make it out of the season alive.

Cinemax debuts new episodes of “Banshee” every Friday night at 10pm.
