Last month, Amazon.com surprised industry observers by ordering a pilot episode of a “Zombieland” adaptation that will completely bypass traditional TV channels. And with two main roles already cast, the third major part in the series has also been filled.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Maiara Walsh has signed on to the “Zombieland” pilot to play Wichita, the young con woman traveling with her sister Little Rock as they try to survive a zombie apocalypse. The role was originally played by Emma Stone in the 2009 Zombieland movie.
The ”Zombieland” original series will take place after the movie, keeping Wichita and Little Rock with their friends, Columbus and Tallahassee. Tyler Ross will take over for Jesse Eisenberg as Columbus and Izabela Vidovic will play Little Rock, whom Abigail Breslin portrayed in the movie. The part of Tallahassee has yet to be cast.
Prior to landing the “Zombieland” pilot, Walsh appeared in “Switched At Birth,” “Cory In The House” and “Desperate Housewives,” with guest appearances on “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and a starring role in Mean Girls 2.
Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are also writing the pilot for the “Zombieland” original series; which they will also executive produce alongside Gavin Polone. A release date has not been announced, but the pilot is expected to film this year.
