Dean Norris Heads ‘Under The Dome’

The “Breaking Bad” costar lands one of the main roles on CBS’ upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s novel.

Watch out, Bryan Cranston. Dean Norris is about to break bad on his own.

TVLine is reporting that Norris has been signed to play Big Jim Rennie in “Under The Dome,” CBS’ forthcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s original novel. And while Norris is widely known DEA agent Hank Schrader on “Breaking Bad,” his new character is a complete 180 turn from Hank.

In King’s novel, Big Jim was a local politician and the owner of a used car dealership. Big Jim also owned “the biggest crystal meth lab on the east coast” and he proved to be a very power hungry and adversarial figure when the town of Chester’s Mill found itself cut off from the rest of the world by an impenetrable dome.

Prior to his roles on “Breaking Bad” and “Under The Dome,” Norris made extensive guest appearances on “The X-Files,” “24,” “NCIS,” “Lost,” “True Blood” and “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” in addition to his roles in Total Recall (the original version), Evan Almighty, Gattaca, The Negotiator, Starship Troopers and Lethal Weapon 2.

Former “Pan Am” star Mike Vogel was also recently cast in “Under The Dome” as Dale "Barbie" Barbara, the protagonist of the novel. Aisha Hinds, Britt Robertson, Natalie Martinez, Colin Ford, Jolene Purdy and Nicholas Strong have all been cast in the series as well.

CBS will launch “Under The Dome” this summer with a 13 episode first season.
