Last September, “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter began developing a comedy series called “Diva. Clown. Killer” for FX; which may star his wife, Katey Sagal (pictured above). However Sutter isn’t done expanding his TV empire.
According to Deadline, Sutter has created a new TV project for FX with former “Hell on Wheels” showrunner, John Shiban called “Lucas Stand;” which is described as a dark action/horror series that follows the title character, a former spec ops soldier who gets a chance at redemption when he is tasked to travel through time and space to take down demons from Hell.
The premise for “Lucas Stand” has been done before on television with series like “Brimstone” and “Reaper,” but FX has more leeway to push the envelope in terms of content than network television. That could potentially allow “Lucas Stand” to go even darker than its predecessors and fit in with “American Horror Story;” which is one of FX’s signature hits.
Sutter has primarily worked on “Sons of Anarchy” and “The Shield,” however Shiban has a long history of working in genre TV dating back to “The X-Files,” “The Lone Gunmen,” “Star Trek: Enterprise,” “Supernatural,” “Smallville,” “Legend of the Seeker” and “The Vampire Diaries” in addition to a stint on “Breaking Bad.”
“Lucas Stand” has yet to get a pilot commitment from FX, but it’s not the only horror series in development at the network. Guillermo del Toro’s “The Strain” is also a likely contender to go to series at FX once del Toro finishes his commitment to Pacific Rim.
Sutter’s development deal at FX isn’t expected to derail his involvement with “Sons of Anarchy;” which will return for its sixth season this fall.
