The “Doctor Who” 50th Anniversary Special may be over half a year away from release, but it’s filming this week in London… where it has been completely ignored and overlooked by the locals.
The last part of that sentence may have been a lie.
It seems that no matter where the big blue box goes, the crowds are sure to follow. In the first of two promo videos from BBC, Dan Starkey reprises his role as Commander Strax to offer a report on the Anniversary Special’s on location filming in London’s Trafalgar Square as Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor hangs on for his life in a way that calls back to his very first full episode on the series. And if you look closely, you’ll even spot Jenna-Louise Coleman in the replica TARDIS being held up by a crane.
For the second promo video, the location shifts to the Tower of London; which was supposedly the headquarters of UNIT. Coleman offers her thoughts on the shoot along with Ingrid Oliver and Jemma Redgrave, who is reprising her role as UNIT’s new leader, Kate Stewart.
The “Doctor Who” 50th Anniversary Special will debut in November on BBC America and BBC One. David Tennant and Billie Piper are both slated to return for the special, and it should be only a matter of time before they’re spotted on the set alongside Smith and Coleman.
