The Glee star talks about the season and her film with Simon Pegg.

Jane Lynch is Glee’s funny villain, Sue Sylvester. While everyone else is singing their way up the iTunes download charts, Sue wants to squash the gleeks with her Cheerios. We got to go a little bit deeper inside Sue’s evil in an exclusive interview with Lynch, and also got a little scoop about the upcoming Simon Pegg/Nick Frost alien comedy Paul.

Crave Online: Sue is still mean.

Jane Lynch: And I will continue to be. There will be a little softening there but only for a moment.

Crave Online: But you go with the relentlessness of it.

Jane Lynch: Yes, I think she finds it delicious to look at the shock on people’s faces when she’s just blatantly mean and cruel.

Crave Online: Is that the direction of the show, that the character has to be that way consistently?

Jane Lynch: Absolutely. We really establish relationships and everything I think quite well in the pilot.

Crave Online: Is it important that everyone has their one trait that defines them?

Jane Lynch: Their archetype trait, yeah, absolutely. I’m sure he started out with that. In fact, I heard Ryan giving an interview the other day and he talked about that. You start out with an archetype and then the actor comes in and starts filling it in.

Crave Online: So when you have to believe that stolen photocopies are the most important crime committed against you, how do you sell that?

Jane Lynch: Well, you take it as an insult. Sue is looking to be insulted and she takes everything personally because she has a huge mofo ego. So everything is picking at her power. That’s how you do that.

Crave Online: What’s coming up for Sue?

Jane Lynch: Well, she’s going to continue to terrorize these kids and Will Schuster, the teacher of the glee club. Some days she will reign victorious and other days she will lose and will come back to fight another day but she is relentless and will not give up.

Crave Online: When she loses, will she get her comeuppances?

Jane Lynch: A little bit, but boy, she gets back like that. She devises a way to be on top again. She’s a person who needs to be on top and she’ll do whatever it takes.

Crave Online: Unflappable.

Jane Lynch: Absolutely.
