Wanda Sykes: Oh yes. It won’t be over there. They’re behind that big W. I don't know if you looked on the other side. That’s the bar. The bar will be open and we will be having drinks during the panel discussion.
Crave Online: We’re looking forward to getting to hear your perspective every week. To discuss a few that came before your show aired, what were your thoughts on Balloon Boy?
Wanda Sykes: Ridiculous. I can’t believe everybody just jumped on it. Come on. Really? We didn’t see right through that from the jump? The guy named his kid Falcon. Come on. You knew something was wrong right there. But now my new saying is, “Put it in the balloon.” Every time somebody screws up, “Put her in the balloon. Put him in the balloon.”
Crave Online: Another story was people were pissed off about Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize.
Wanda Sykes: How do you get pissed off at peace? The leader of your country won an award. He didn’t get *sshole of the year. He got a Nobel Peace Prize. What’s wrong with that. Also, I think it’s just a statement of the rest of the world saying, “Hey, your last president really sucked. Good job electing a decent guy.”
Crave Online: Well, some people said he hadn’t done anything to deserve it yet, but were they fans of some other peacemaker who got snubbed? Did Obama beat out Fjord Fjurgen?
Wanda Sykes: No, and for the people who said that he hasn’t done anything, they’re idiots. Didn’t the Dow just break 10,000 this week? I know it went down today a little bit but we broke 10,000 this week. The world banking financial system was going down the toilet and we built back the financial institutions they paid the money that early. I think the man has done a lot. This country, I’m surprised the earth didn’t just open up and swallow us whole. He kept us afloat so for them to say he hasn’t done anything, come on. They’re idiots.
Crave Online: Since your show is on Fox, does that mean you can do whatever you want?
Wanda Sykes: No. I will try to do whatever I want and we’ll see how long I last.
Crave Online: Fox does push the limits more than other networks.
Wanda Sykes: True, true. Family Guy, yeah, so hopefully they will extend that courtesy to me.
Crave Online: How will you try to push the limits of network talk shows?
Wanda Sykes: Just being me. I’m just going to try to be me and put my point of view out there, my voice out there and we’ll see. See what happens.
Crave Online: Is talk show host the one job you didn’t get to on Wanda Does It?
Wanda Sykes: Yes. There were a couple other gigs I wanted to try but talk show host, didn’t get to do that on Wanda Does It.
Wanda Sykes: I remember I believe I was like maybe in the seventh grade or somewhere around there, but there was a block party and the couple that lived across from us, a retired elderly couple and he liked to drink, whatever. All the adults were drunk so he fell and he cracked his head open. We had to take him to the military base because he was a veteran, had to take him to the hospital to get stitched up. So I went with one of the neighbors to take him to the hospital and I was just cracking jokes the entire time. Everybody was laughing. It kind of cooled their pill, just took the stress out of the situation I guess. We got to the hospital, the doctors were asking what happened and they were taking him in the back. I was like, “Hey, if I was you, no open flames around him.” Just cracking jokes and that’s when it just kind of hit me like oh, all right. I have something here.
Crave Online: Seventh grade is pretty young. Did you ever get in trouble for it?
Wanda Sykes: No, because I knew, especially in school, what was being disruptive and what was hey, let’s have a good time in class.
