Poor Sofia Vergara. Her TV shows never last more than a season. Good for us though, because it means she’s always back with a new one to sell and we get to ogle, er, talk to her again. On Modern Family, she plays Ed O’Neill’s new wife. A documentary crew follows hers and two other families to compare different crazy family values.

Crave Online: Does Modern Family match your sense of humor?

Sofia Vergara: Yeah. I’ve done a lot of comedy but it’s pretty much in the same kind of stuff. The character is great because it’s very easy for me because she’s a Latin woman from Colombia. She has kind of like my personality so it’s fun.

Crave Online: Will we find out how they met?

Sofia Vergara: Yeah, of course.

Crave Online: Can you tell us?

Sofia Vergara: No, I guess that’s going to be part of an episode or something.

Crave Online: Will it be funny?

Sofia Vergara: Yes, funny. Hopefully the whole show is going to be funny because they’re working very hard.

Crave Online: What funny stuff is coming up for you?

Sofia Vergara: You know, a lot of stuff with the parenting of the gay couple. Jay and Gloria with the baby. It’s all about their family. Like a lot of problems but it’s normal problems, everyday problems.

Crave Online: You have a son in real life.

Sofia Vergara: Yeah, he’s 18.

Crave Online: How would you feel if you started dating someone and they tried to parent your son?

Sofia Vergara: Well, okay, I’ve been through many men after my divorce. No. No, I’ve been divorced for 17 years, since he was one year old so I’ve had my share of boyfriends. They’ve always been great with him and I appreciate when somebody genuinely and wisely says something. You appreciate that even if it’s not your partner. Even if it’s the maid, if it’s anyone that is trying to help you raise a kid. You appreciate it. I don’t mind at all if it’s something good.

Crave Online: Ed O’Neill’s character is a little discouraging though.

Sofia Vergara: But you’ll see in other episodes that she knows exactly what this kid’s limitations are. She just wants to be a good mother and supportive and because nothing is really major. It’s like just kids stuff, so I don't think she’s doing anything major for his life. She’s just trying to be a good mother and appreciative of his things.

Crave Online: Do you share that outlook or do you worry a lot?

Sofia Vergara: Of course I worry about my son a lot, but my son came out to be a very good gentleman at 18. So I have no worries. I think that’s one of the best jobs I’ve done in my life.

Crave Online: It’s great that your character is Colombian like you. Have you been asked to play other types of Latinas that felt distant to you?

Sofia Vergara: No, not really distant because Latin people, we’re all kind of the same but we have specific differences like foods or music. But I think our personalities are all in general the same. We all have the same values with family. We all have the same morals so it’s like all the same.

Crave Online: Is your character a trophy bride or is there more to their relationship?

Sofia Vergara: I think in a way it’s a trophy wife to Ed which I think is perfectly good. I think it’s very normal and it doesn’t have to be taken as something bad I think because it’s a reality of course. Any man that age that has opportunity to marry a woman like her would do it, you know. If she’s a good woman, somebody that is going to do good things for his life. Obviously, this is a couple that they share other things in common and other things not in common. But I think she doesn’t care about that because he’s very good to her and she is good to him.

Crave Online: She actually doesn’t answer the question in the interview where she said she fell out the window with an ex. Was she fighting or making love? Did you shoot the answer?

Sofia Vergara: No, no, not yet.

Crave Online: Do you know whether that was a fight or sex?

Sofia Vergara: No, I don't know. [Laughs]

Crave Online: What do you think of the wardrobe of this suburban mom?

Sofia Vergara: You know what? She’s not at all that suburban. I think the wardrobe department is having a lot of fun with me. They always like my character because they’re able to play a little bit more colorful, a little bit more sexy. Nothing too crazy but they’re letting the character be herself, what a real Latin woman my age, her age, would wear. So it’s like nothing too slutty but nothing conservative because obviously, a woman that looks like her or that has the life that she has won’t be wearing sneakers all day long with a twin set.

Crave Online: You always look amazing, whether it’s Knights of Prosperity or Dirty Sexy Money so you’ll look hot in this.

Sofia Vergara: Gracias, thank you. I hope so. It’s a reality and I love it and I accept it of course. When they hire me, they hire me for everything I am. They’re not going to hire me to put me in a doctor’s outfit or a mommy. You are who you are and as an actress, you can make your character better or worse. If you put a lot of yourself, I think it’s great.

Crave Online: You’d rock a pair of scrubs too.

Sofia Vergara: Yeah, definitely. I would cut them.
