Battlestar Galactica is over but there are still a few more things to talk about. Ron Moore has been appearing on panels such as The Paley Center for Media’s Paleyfest 2009 and The Envelope’s presentation on a UN perspective on BSG. There’s also still The Plan coming up, so we haven’t run out of questions for Ron Moore yet. Of course, Seth Green moderating the Paleyfest panel helped.
Crave Online: How is The Plan shaping up?
Ron Moore: Oh, it’s good. It’s a great companion piece to the show. It’s definitely for people that loved the show and are interested in looking back and looking at the first couple of years through the Cylon point of view and seeing things that were happening off camera that they weren’t aware of. I think it’s a great piece.
Crave Online: Do you incorporate old takes or is it all brand new footage?
Ron Moore: No, we incorporated old footage, some footage that was seen on camera, some that was not seen on camera when it was shot originally. Some of it were just alternate takes of existing scenes or expanded takes where if you look at the original episode, maybe this scene was broadcast from over here with a two shot of Adama and Tigh. Maybe in this scene in The Plan, we’re actually using B camera footage from a different angle of the same take. We did kind of mix up some of the existing stuff.
Crave Online: What kind of Easter eggs can we find in The Plan?
Ron Moore: Well, there’s all kinds of little buried references to extraneous details in the show, references to ships and picking up threads, all kinds of breadcrumbs we dropped along the way.
Crave Online: Jane Espenson wrote it and Edward James Olmos directed it. What stamp did you put on The Plan yourself?
Ron Moore: I supervise and I give suggestions and follow-ups and I try to keep the story and the concepts within the Battlestar world but I really let Jane run with it. It’s really her piece and Eddie’s. I was very happy to let them take the reigns on this one.
Crave Online: Are there any surprises since we know what happens?
Ron Moore: I think there’s definitely surprises. It’s a piece for people who love the show. You love the show, you’re probably going to be really intrigued by The Plan. It’s going to have all these little breadcrumbs and throwaway lines and indicators and suggestions from other episodes, but you’ve seen the show, you’ve watched the finale, you know how the story ends. Okay, here’s an additional slant on some things that you didn’t know about.
