The last time we saw the Doctor (Matt Smith) and his newly wed companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), they were racing off to their next adventure on the Orient Express… in Space.
And while we may not see that story in the upcoming "Doctor Who" Christmas special "A Christmas Carol," the BBC has released a short synopsis of the episode:
"Amy and Rory are trapped on a crashing space liner, and the only way The Doctor can rescue them is to save the soul of a lonely old miser, in a festive edition of the time-travelling adventure, written by Steven Moffat. But is Kazran Sardick, the richest man in Sardicktown, beyond redemption? And what is lurking in the fogs of Christmas Eve?"
Michael Gambon (from the "Harry Potter" films) will play Kazran Sardick, while Opera singer Katherine Jenkins will make her acting debut as Abigail Pettigrew. Micah Balfour, Pooky Quesne, Leo Bill, Laurence Belcher, Bailey Pepper and Danny Horn also guest star in the episode.
"Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat is writing the special and recently acknowledged the obvious homage it plays to Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol."
"It's all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. And … oh, you'll see," said Moffat before adding "I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything."
"Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol" will air on BBC America on Christmas at 9PM ET.
