“Battle of the Blades” Announces Pairs

New season kicks off next week.

The pairs for the third season of the popular home-grown show "Battle of the Blades", which kicks off next Sunday and Monday nights, were recently announced.

Here's a quick who's who of participants:

 

Violetta Afanasieva and Cale Hulse

Russian beaut Violetta Afanasieva won the first-ever Extreme Ice Skating World Championship and joins ex-Calgary Flame Cale Hulse, who also played for New Jersey, Nashville, Phoenix, and Columbus.

 

Tanith Belbin and Boyd Devereaux

Tanith Belbin  is a five-time U.S. ice dance champion, four-time World medalist, and 2006 Olympic silver medalist, and she'll be competing with former Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers player Boyd Devereaux.

 

Elena Berezhnaya and Curtis Leschyshyn

Olympic gold medalist, two-time World champion and four-time Russian national champion Elena Berezhnaya is partnered with Curtis Leschyshyn who won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 1996.

 

Tessa Bonhomme and David Pelletier

Tessa Bonhomme was a part of Canada's gold medal-winning women's hockey team at the 2010 Olympic Games and joins David Pelletier, a three-time Canadian pairs champion, World champion, Grand-Prix Final champion, and Olympic gold medalist.

 

Marie-France Dubreuil and Bryan Berard

Five-time ice dance champion Marie-France Dubreuil will skate with Bryan Berard, a first overall NHL draft pick.

 

Marcy Hinzmann-Harris and Todd Simpson

Marcy Hinzmann-Harris, a U.S. World and Olympic team member and two-time U.S. pairs medalist, is paired with former NHL defenceman Todd Simpson, the former captain of the Calgary Flames.

 

Anabelle Langlois and Brad May

World and Olympic team member and 2008 Canadian pairs champion Anabelle Langlois skates with Brad May, who won the Stanley Cup in 2008 with the Anaheim Ducks.

 

Kim Navarro and Russ Courtnall

Russ Courtnall will be returning to the show with new competitor Kim Navarro, a U.S. World team member and two-time U.S. ice dance bronze medalist.
