Last summer, FX introduced viewers to "Wilfred," a remake of an Australian TV series that follows Ryan (Elijah Wood), a formerly suicidal (and possibly disturbed) young man who went on a series of misadventures with his neighbor's dog, Wilfred (Jason Gann); whom only Ryan perceives as a surly Australian man in a cheap dog suit.
When it comes to Wilfred the dog, the lines of reality tend to blur into absurdity. The only thing that Ryan knew for sure is that he wanted to win the heart of Wilfred's owner, Jenna (Fiona Gubelmann). And in the first season finale, Ryan went dark to achieve his goal by manipulating Jenna and her jerk boyfriend, Drew (Chris Klein) into breaking up in order to clear the way for Ryan himself.
But all of Ryan's uncharacteristically Machiavellian scheming destroyed the marriage of Ryan's sister, Kristen (Dorian Brown) and left Jenna convinced that she had to marry Drew because she mistakenly believed that she was pregnant. Even worse, Wilfred was hit by a car and he no longer remembered Ryan. And when Ryan returned to his home, he was no longer sure if any of his time with Wilfred was real or if it was simply a delusion.
While it's not clear how "Wilfred" will deal with that cliffhanger, the first promo teasers for season two suggest that Wilfred and Ryan will quickly get back to normal. In the first clip, Wilfred demonstrates how a game of fetch should be played…
And in the second clip, Ryan unwittingly reenacts the famous spaghetti scene from Lady and the Tramp with Wilfred.
Not much is known about "Wilfred" season two, but it will run for 13 episodes and former "Smallville" star Allison Mack recently signed on as Ryan's new love interest.
"Wilfred" returns to FX on Thursday, June 28.
