After a pitched and bloody confrontation, Stannis and his troops were repelled by the timely arrival of Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) and Ser Loras Tyrell (Finn Jones); whose joint appearance suggests that a new alliance has been struck between the Lannisters and the Tyrells.
While HBO has not released any preview scenes from this Sunday's second season finale, the network has sent out five new photos from "Valar Morghulis."
In the first photo, we see King Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) standing triumphantly. But how long can Joffrey reign now that his most loyal soldiers have seen just how much of a coward that he really is? And will Tywin tolerate Joffrey's insanity and foolishness any more than Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) did?
For the second photo, Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) certainly looks calm and rational as he addresses his men. "What is dead may never die" probably works better in theory than in action…
The Wilding Woman, Osha (Natalia Tena) appears in the third photo. And curiously, she seems to be out of her hiding place and possibly near the Heart Tree outside of Winterfell.
Photo number four finds Sam (John Bradley-West) and Grenn (Mark Stanley) still chillin' with the Night's Watch back at the Fist of the First Men.
And finally, the last photo features Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) as they make their way to the House of the Undying to retrieve her stolen dragons.
HBO has also released the synopsis for the season finale and a brief trailer.
The aftermath of the Battle of the Blackwater sees Joffrey reward his followers while Tyrion finds himself in a strange situation. In Winterfell, Theon plans to call his men to action, but Luwin has some important advice for him first. Arya receives a gift from Jaqen. Daenerys enters unfamiliar territory, and Brienne silences Jaime. Beyond the Wall, Jon Snow pleases Qhorin with his actions.
Don't miss the second season finale of "Game of Thrones," this Sunday on HBO!
