Yesterday, the BBC released “The Great Detective,” a prequel to this year’s “Doctor Who” Christmas special in which we learned that the Doctor (Matt Smith) has been emotionally wounded by the loss of Amy and Rory and retired to a quiet life in 19th Century London.
Don’t expect that to last.
Smith and his new co-star, Jenna-Louise Coleman introduced the first trailer for the Christmas special during the annual Children In Need telethon. And while Coleman’s new character will be called Clara, she and Smith broadly hinted at the currently unknown connection between Clara and Oswin, the woman whom Coleman portrayed in the seventh season premiere.
For this year’s special, the Doctor and Clara will be joined by Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), Jenny (Catrin Stewart) and even Commander Strax (Dan Starkey) as they take on the malevolent Doctor Simeon (Richard E Grant) and his army of killer snowmen.
“Doctor Who” returns on Christmas, Tuesday, December 25 on BBC One and BBC America!
