I remember draining an entire twenty game tokens into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade machine at the local Chuck E. Cheese. I remember having just about all the turtle action figures as well as an assortment of adversaries to pit them against. When the season five DVD hit my desk, I immediately tumbled down memory lane. From the wacked out supporting cast to the preposterous villains, TMNT was one of my favorite cartoons growing up.
With the fifth season of TMNT on DVD long time fans should be able to finally collect all the 100 plus episodes. Not only will they get all 18 season five episodes, but there are a few cool special features included on the third disc. Fans will get a chance to revisit Usagi Yojimbo’s American animation debut, and the origin of Baxter Stockman. The best special feature is by far the interview with the original voice actors of the show. They spoke about how they were cast, how much fun they had, and how surprising the fan response has been over the years. Some of those moments are surprisingly sincere and truly touching, it made the DVD that much better.
With the recent release of the newest Turtle movie, hopefully interest in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is at an all time high. Ever since the first issue of Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hit the scene at a comics convention in 1984, the Turtles have been a marketing behemoth ever since. This is a great chance to be a part of what has to be considered a cultural phenomenon. If there are any birthdays coming up, and you’re pressed for a gift idea, give this little box set some serious consideration. The packaging is really neat and the contents extremely entertaining, just sit back, order a couple of pies and enjoy.
